Whether the coating clings depends on the fruit's skin: water droplets and heavy wax both let it slide. Small apples coat more evenly and make a manageable portion. Once on their sticks they go in the fridge rather than sitting out on display, and come out only as they are eaten.

Instructions
- 1
Rub apples under running water and dry completely with a clean cloth.
Refrigerate for 1 hour.
- 2
Line a tray with parchment and brush lightly with oil.
Remove stems and insert clean food-safe sticks firmly through the stem ends.
- 3
Unwrap caramels and place with water in a deep microwave-safe bowl.
Heat in 30-second bursts, stirring each time, for about 2 to 3 minutes until smooth. Do not touch the very hot coating.
- 4
Rotate each apple through the coating and let excess drip back into the bowl.
Stand apart on the prepared tray.
- 5
Refrigerate at least 1 hour until the coating firms.
Keep refrigerated, eat within 2 days, and take out only for serving and slicing.
