    Peel butterbur stems and cut into 5 cm pieces.

    Boil for 7 minutes, rinse in cold water, and drain well.

    Heat perilla oil and sauté onion and garlic.

    Add stems, soup soy sauce, and water; simmer-stir for 5 minutes.

Tips

If still tough, boil 2-3 minutes longer.
Add perilla powder near the end to avoid pasty texture.
