About this dish
Baked in its own dish instead of inside the bird, this stuffing frees the turkey cavity and goes into the oven on its own schedule.

The broth ratio is written for a dry, herb-seasoned stuffing mix. Fresh sandwich bread or fine crumbs soak up liquid differently and season differently. A covered dish gives a soft, moist result, while leaving it uncovered crisps the top. Gentle folding lets the bread pieces keep some shape.
Ingredients
Instructions
- 1
Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Lightly butter a 9 x 13 x 2-inch baking dish with the butter reserved for greasing.
- 2
Melt the 1/4 cup butter in a 3-quart saucepan over medium heat.
Cook the celery and onion for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened with a little bite remaining.
- 3
Pour in the broth and bring it to a boil, then turn off the heat.
Fold in the dry stuffing mix lightly so it takes up the broth evenly.
- 4
Transfer to the prepared dish and cover with a lid or foil.
Bake for about 30 minutes, until hot through the center, and serve warm.
